Hey...my partner doesn't know anything about fossils because she doesnt study for anything except ecology....however, i think im good enough to do well by myself at state. Will me being practically alone be a problem?
Umm... it really depends on the test. At the Regionals test (which was a bit harder than the States one), I probably wouldn't have finished as well as I did without my partner. We basically work a system where I take care of the binder (since I made it and know it better) and he works on the field guide. When we encounter a question that we can't answer off the top of our heads, he looks in the field guide, I look in the binder. There were a lot more questions on the Regionals test so with two people, we worked a lot faster.

However, at States, the whole thing is IDing and it was mad easy. My partner seems to have trouble with IDing no matter what I tell him to do (it's not the biggest problem since I can ID them all, but it would be nice if he could too). He can go "that's a trilobite" or "that's a snail", but he can't go in more detail. The fact that he wasn't at our school last year and so he doesn't know the basics of bio or the difference between a Class and a Kingdom (though I did give him a nice outline on them all) doesn't help either. When it comes to that, I could run the event solo.

However, since you've got a week 'til States, you might as well give your partner a chance and make sure she can navigate the field guide or something. Therefore, you can tell her what to look for and have her find it in the field guide (if it isn't in the binder) and you guys can work faster.
My partner doesn't study, not because i don't let her, but because she doesn't want to. She doesn't say it to my face but she says she'll work on it and never does. O well...im a fast worker and ID shouldn't be a problem...and either way, my schools placed in the lower division at state so i hope im fine...

Guys, i found this amazing time line a few months back...if they ask you any questions on the major fauna or plant-life during a time period/w.e measurement of time, you should be covered...and if they ask you to label time periods with names such as the Devonian be the "Age of Fish", well then it's just TOO easy...

Hope you guys like it, ill be adding a link to it in the wiki as well.

Ok...so im kinda frustrated.

Is reptilia a class or super class or something else? I at first thought it was a class because wikipedia said so, and i honestly don't think anyone is going to vandalise a wikipedia page on reptiles...

But on packer backers test, for taxon chart questions on a few dinos, he had it as sauropsida for class (the said dinos were allosaurus, deinonychus, and iguanodon). He might be wrong, but i don't want to be wrong at state which is in 4 days....scratch that, 3.

Edit: Ok i think a lot of this test is kinda jank...no offense, im sure this test was very hard to make, but do plants fall into Phyla?

Also...how is the permian extinction older than the formation of the Ediacaran biota, and how is the cretaceous extinction older than the appearance of feathered dinos, if the cretaceous extinction wiped out all dinos....

There are some mistakes, but generally it is decent. Use reptilia. You may want to give your plant information a brush up (fossil joke?)

I would start with your classification. Even though the rules were made to deter proctors from making it a classification test, many do. (classification is not identification)

For my test being on there so long I am very surprised that a mistake like that was really never said. I never really saw that mistake until the now!

O i have classification down...in my binder that is...i just didnt have Phyla for plants beacause i thought they were seperated into divisions...

And packerback...srry im not good with memorizing forum names, it was still a pretty good test and i thank you for making it...but it's weird that no one ever found that.

I'm not sure if this question's been answered already, and I'm sorry if it has, but i did a quick search and didn't find it... yeah

so, how the heck do i prepare for this event?

nah, jk, that wasn't my question :D but when given a sample, how can you tell apart the difference between permineralization, replacement, and recrystallization?
Hi. I have a messed up sleep cycle. Thank you, scioly.

I'd also like to know this - i understand permineralization but for the other 2, i have no clue...
