Michael Crichton
Yesterday, while everyone was distracted by something as unimportant as the election of a leader for this country [read:sarcasm], everyone overlooked the truly important and tragic news.
Michael Crichton, beloved author of Andromeda Strain, Jurassic Park, Timeline, creator of ER, etc, etc, passed away on 4 November 2008. He apparently had been privately struggling with cancer for a while now, but as far as I know this was never made public.
This is really sad for me because although his recent books have been kind of lacking, he is still one of my all-time favorite authors.
Not to mention he was both a Harvard undergrad/med school alum, and he lived in my dorm, up on the 4th floor.
He wrote his first book (Andromeda Strain) while in med school at Harvard. Talk about crazy.

Yeah, read about this at work today.
Read 12 of his books...enjoyed all of them. I guess I should pick up his others

Re: Michael Crichton
State of Fear and Timeline were also extremely good books.

Re: Michael Crichton
I loved Michael Chrichton.
I wouldn't be where I am without Jurassic Park. I had always loved dinosaurs, and when I was six my parents caved and let me watch it. It truly inspired me.
I read Jurassic Park (of course), Congo, The Lost World, and some of Timeline. The only problem I had was that his books had too many characters. They were amazing, however, and we won't see the likes of him again soon.

Re: Michael Crichton
I like Michael Crichton. I read The Andromeda Strain, Timeline and Prey, though I was kinda disappointed in Prey. I dunno, the ending just didn't do it for me.

Re: Michael Crichton
He was the greatest *sniff*.
Timeline, the Andromeda Strain, and Jurassic Park were brilliant. Next was awful, though don;t bother with it.
