Re: Scoring
Hmmm. If everybody else is bouncing them off the rafters (like a lot at the last competition) then we'd be better off just popping ours off the launcher and letting it fall to ground even if the parachute didn't deploy? So if there are only 3 launches that get a Tier 1 score then they'd ...

Re: Launcher...ASAP
Check YouTube for “pingponglauncher”. Posted my method for making one from PVC. Definitely not a professional infomercial though. Cost was about $30 w/ gauge (optional). Has pressure gauge, adjustable zip tie retention system, and an easy way to make the launch tube bulge. Still have to update a few ...

Re: Nerd Inc. Launcher Problems
Nerd type launcher kept malfunctioning at our regional too. Hit or miss as to whether it would release the rockets. They finally had to borrow our homemade launcher to finish the event. From your experiences, do your launches appear to have different results (i.e. height) based on the launchers ...

Re: Scoring
Still not wrapping my head around this scoring system. Can you give some examples? Say we get a 10 second Tier 1 flight time. Next person gets a longer time but they hit the rafters (Tier 3). Is there any way they could place higher than us? What about the person who’s parachute came back down with ...

Re: Bottle
The one liter flavored sparkling water bottles (Walmart, Kroger, etc.) seemed to be what everyone was shooting at the regionals we just attended. They usually cost between 69 cents and a dollar.

Re: Scoring
So a 2 second flight in Tier 1 would still beat out a 10 second flight that was demoted to Tier 2 or 3? Can you point me to the rules on the Tiers that fully explains the scoring? I'm new to all this.

Re: Scoring
Just to understand the Tier system. If you're kicked into Tier 2 or 3, all that does is reduce your actual time by 20% and 40% respectively? So a time of 10 seconds would become 8 or 6 seconds based on the Tier reduction? Or are the time reductions different?

Re: Bottle Rocket Launcher
Very similar to the Nerds $225 model but appeared to have been fabricated in house with extra o-rings.

Re: Bottle Rocket Launcher
Went to the regionals yesterday. The launcher they were using was fabricated out of aluminum, a little bigger than a big box of matches, open on both ends and it had a sliding lid with a U-shape cut out of one end to slide around the bottle ring. The pressure post was fabricated pretty much like one ...

Re: Bottle Rocket Launcher
Also going to check into using water hose quick connects to make it easier to break the tower into 2 pieces for breakdown/assembly. Right now it requires tools to take apart the upper/lower tower sections and want to get away from that.
