Re: "Separate" containers
"The specific design and material of the sides and base can vary greatly depending on the container's purpose" - I think this grants broad leeway. For example, a bag is a container, and it doesn't have walls. At a recent invitational, I only discredited two "containers" - one was a flat tray with ...

Re: "Separate" containers
Right - so how should points be awarded? I got this as a response when I submitted a clarification question : "We will not make a determination
if something is scoreable or is legal according to the rules. Interpretations will be left up to the local Event Supervisor. "
So if I am the local Event ...

Re: "Separate" containers
I'll have to go watch the video - I saw one from soinc.org that was early in the season and there seemed to be confusion about water being allowed, which has since been explicitly allowed via clarification. As far as I'm concerned, only the rules manual and the official soinc.org clarifications are ...

Flying with two motors
Beginner question here - when is it appropriate to fly with two motors, and what's the advantage?
Here's the full context, any comments or advice are welcome of course -
My students have been flying the Laser Cut Planes model, the Neopolitan - I know it's not a top performer but I've learned that ...

Re: "Separate" containers
I wouldn't interpret separate to mean they need to be removable, but the ES will need to count and verify. Practically speaking too, students will need to easily be able to remove the items between test runs etc.

Re: Sorting and Ringing Bell
I've been wondering about the technicalities around the final task as well - I tried submitting a clarification but I included too much of a specific question rather than focused purely on the rules, so I'll probably try again -
As for what you described I think it's ok, as long as the whole "items ...

Re: Roller coaster loop hole
A student of mine wants to program a Lego Spike Prime to slow down the marble in the track. The rules don't say anything explicitly about using a motorized object to slow it down but I'm quite certain it will not be allowed. What are your thoughts?
Rule 3g and 3k probably prohibit this. I'm not ...

Re: Rule 3.b.: 3.500kg and 5.000kg measurements
I have a related question about the measurement of the falling mass.
Do all the parts of the falling mass need to be removeable for weighing or can one or more parts remain attached to the assembly as long as they can be weighed as a combined unit with a spring balance to prove that they are ...

Re: Template removal time clarification
Hi All,
The rules around templates listed in the wiki - https://scioly.org/wiki/index.php/Optics#Templates are great, but I wanted clarification on this question - Do all the templates used by the participants need to be removed before the 4 minutes are over? Or is it ok to leave them in place ...
