The rules state: "The students must use at least two of the provided materials to design and conduct an experiment." 2014 Rules, Section 3, Paragraph a, Lines 5-6 If I was judging I would have tiered you. Yes, and the provided paper clips and rubber bands were used. Two provided materials.

My team took a surprising and disappointing 17th at Regionals this year--we contacted the proctor of the event, who told us we were tiered for not following the directions. Barring anything we forgot to read, the directions commissioned us to perform an experiment testing the effect of stress on a ...

The answer isss|Apatite! I think that white scarring/ghosting/impurities/whatever you want to call it is really indicative of Apatite, though it can be confused with Sodalite.
