Ok thanks. It just seems that a little more pressure would certainly cause some piece of wood to break or slip.
And I think that chevron bracing would be very effective, but you would have to use 1/8 in sq. wood pieces, right?

Re: Designs
I recently built the lower portion of the tower, and when I try to press down on the top of it, I can see the bottom x-bracing connecting the legs sag down slightly. My pressure is no where near a large amount of pressure, but I can already picture it buckling very early. Do you guys think this woul...

Re: Designs
Are you guys making the chimney section of the tower slightly thinner at the top? For example making the portion of the chimney that connects with the base about 5.6 cm and the top of it maybe 4ish cm?

Re: Efficiencies
I'm sure this is a relatively stupid/simple question, but is there a certain way you all pour in the sand. If a lever system is used to let the sand fall in, would you want to go slow, then faster, then switch back to slow? Letting the sand in slow seems like it would make your tower sustain the wei...

Re: Balsa or Bass
Wow, 2-3 towers a week. I wish I was as dedicated as you haha :) . What I'm wondering is what wood densities you're using, because on the site I previously bought balsa wood from, the nice, light balsa wood that would be great for this event are all from $0.55 to about $1, and using 2-3 towers worth...

Re: Designs
What wood density are you guys making your main side structural supports? I'm looking at around 1.4ish, but with that, I'm not sure how people are able to hold the maximum weight.

Re: Sumo Bots C
Ok thanks chalker for the confirmation. And yeah, I'm building it from scratch too. The most expensive thing was the transmitter/receiver pair (costed close to $100 but i'm sure I could have gotten it for less). Some wheels are also pretty ridiculously priced. A pair of two wheels can get into the $...
